Contrary to prior belief, Brooklyn ain’t a borough… it’s a world unto itself. Hence, the late great GURU titling Gang Starr’s ode to Brooklyn, “The Planet.” Robert Norman, graphic designer and Bed Stuy native, is the owner and creative visionary of fashion brand Planet Brooklyn Academy. The clothing line (originally launched without the “Academy” surname) has evolved over the years to include designs inspired by collegiate life. PBA’s website extends beyond fresh gear; various news articles, events and hotspots from around Brooklyn are also posted on the regular.
Aside from being an astute businessman, Rob is a good friend of mine. So when he recently planned a fashion photo shoot with sexy model Jessica Moya, my BK brethren came to The Spizzy for an assist… and I was more than happy to oblige. And we shot the pics in BK, might I add. Right near the infamous Marcy P’s. That was a good area to do it… Marcy’s been known to churn out a millionaire or two. Maybe some of that magical pixie dust rubbed off on us.
