To hell with that phony, bastardized version of the Harlem Shake… “twerking” is the dance craze that has the streets on lock. If you don’t know what twerking is, you probably go to bed at 8pm and yell at kids to “get off your lawn.” In brief, twerking is a provocative dance where young ladies do a lot of gyrating, rump-shakin’, splits and handstands. “Twerk teams” try to outdo each other in homemade videos posted at classy online venues like WorldstarHipHop. Miley Cyrus recently stoked the flames of its popularity by twerking in a unicorn costume, which is ironic since she has a pancake-booty. But I guess twerking isn’t about the amount of ass, it’s all in the rhythm.

Just the other day, 33 students from Scripps Ranch High School in San Diego were suspended and banned from their prom & graduation ceremony, after a video of them twerking was posted on YouTube. The photo above is a screen shot of the now-infamous video.

Dozens of students at Scripps Ranch High School in San Diego were suspended after a video of them “twerking” was uploaded to YouTube. Now, the group has to appeal to win back the right to attend prom and walk at graduation, NBC 7 San Diego reported. The 33 students involved in the video, which was reportedly recorded on school-owned equipment, were suspended through the end of the week. According to NBC 7, the student also used school editing equipment to add music with vulgar lyrics to the video and upload it to YouTube.

“The seniors involved are on senior review and have to ask for their prom and graduation back in front of a panel,” one of the teenagers involved in the incident told NBC 7. The appeals process is outlined on the San Diego Unified School District’s website.

The Scripps Ranch High School student handbook prohibits “verbal, visual, or physical conduct of a sexual nature made by someone from or in the educational setting.”

San Diego Unified school board member Scott Barnett told the News that he has asked that the matter be discussed during the board’s executive session on Tuesday.

“As a father of two teenaged daughters in one of our different high schools, I take issues of proper conduct and discipline very seriously,” he said. “At the same time, I need to be satisfied that the consequences of these actions are reasonable and proportionate.”

People have taken to the #FreeTheTwerkTeam hashtag on Twitter to show their support for the students.

“This whole twerk team thing is basically like modern day Footloose #freethetwerkteam #SRHSTwerkTeam,” one user wrote.

“They may not be able to walk during graduation … but they didn’t say they couldn’t twerk across the stage! #FreeTheTwerkTeam,” another supporter tweeted.

It’s absolutely retarded (uh, I mean the “R-word”) to ban these kids from their prom and graduation ceremony over something like this. These principals and board members act like they were never carefree young-dumb-and-full-of-cum teenagers. The prom and High School graduation are once-in-a-lifetime events. To strip them of that experience over a single mistake that really didn’t hurt anyone is cruel and unusual punishment.

Now that the dominoes of discipline have fallen, don’t be surprised if the government declares a “War On Twerking.” We all know how petty our government can be and how much they love to declare war on stuff. Since marijuana is slowly becoming legal, they need something else to demonize and this could be the next witch hunt… especially since young suburban white girls do it too. If Miley Cyrus ever gets arrested and has to do a PSA as punishment, she’ll have to renounce the dance (“Kids, just say no to twerking”). This war will be enforced by the Patriot Act and paid for with our taxes. SWAT teams will raid houses where they suspect twerking… well, in the hood anyway. I’ve seen this movie before, people.

Looks like our government is using the paranoia created by the Boston Marathon bombings to settle old scores, just like they did with 9/11. Former Black Panther, Black Liberation Army member (and Tupac’s step-aunt) Assata Shakur was added to the FBI Most Wanted list on Thursday, making her the first woman to receive this dubious honor. I’m not going to cheapen the legacy of Assata Shakur, born Joanne Chesimard, by giving an abridged version right here and now. If you can find porn, illegal music and other obscure stuff online, you can do the knowledge on Assata. Shoot, I researched her back in the 80′s when Chuck D sparked my interest on the song “Rebel Without A Pause” (“Recorded and ordered – supporter of Chesimard”) and we didn’t have the internet in those archaic times. The FBI is full of shit for putting the “Most Wanted Terrorist” label on a 66-year old woman who poses no threat whatsoever to the USA, especially for a questionable crime from 34 years ago. But that’s how it goes in the shadow of the dreaded Patriot Act, which strips away our “freedom” and allows the government to brand pretty much anyone they want as a terrorist. This woman is now on the same list Bin Laden was on, for infractions nowhere near as severe.

Former Black Panther and member of the Black Liberation Army Assata Shakur became the first-ever woman to be added to the FBI’s most wanted terrorist list. She is currently 66 years old and living in Cuba where she has been granted political asylum.

In May of 1973, Shakur was in a car that was pulled over by police on the New Jersey highway. A shootout occurred, resulting in the deaths of her companion and fellow activist Zayd Malik Shakur and State Trooper Werner Foerster. Assata Shakur was wounded in the gunfight, having been shot twice. Accounts of what happened that night differ greatly — surviving Trooper James Harper (also wounded) claimed that Zayd Malik Shakur began firing when they asked him to step out of the vehicle whereas Assata Shakur attests that the police fired first, even after she had her hands in the air.

Assata Shakur was convicted of Foerster’s murder and sentenced to a life in prison. In 1979, with the help of allies, she was able to escape from confinement and flee to Cuba where she still lives and calls herself a “20th century escaped slave.”

Wanted for approximately 34 years, Shakur, born Joanne Chesimard in New York City, has now become the first woman and the second domestic terrorist (as labeled by the government) to have ever made the FBI’s most wanted list. The bounty for her capture and return to the U.S. has now jumped from $1 million to $2 million.

Now the table is set for Shakur to be assassinated like Bin Laden (supposedly) by some Cuban vigilante. I understand that President Obama is nothing more than a politician and don’t expect him to walk on water like his die-hard supporters do. I only voted for him because he’s the lesser of two evils. But if Obama sits idly by and allows the FBI to keep Assata on the Most Wanted terrorist list, I can’t mess with him at all. There’s no way in Hell that the first black President can pardon an ex-Black Panther; that’s totally understandable. But since everything happens under his watch, Obama could at least advise the FBI that they’re wasting their resources on the wrong target. Because whether or not you support Assata, it should be disheartening to anyone that the Patriot Act gives authorities unlimited power. Get on the government’s bad side and you too may be labeled “terrorist.”
